Encaustic, the application of molten coloured wax to a surface, originated with the ancient Greeks. Its inherent qualities range from delicate transparent glazes to thick, opaque, and sculptural surfaces.
Students will work closely with the instructor to develop their own series of works while exploring the many possibilities of this historical technique. In-class demonstrations will introduce the wide range of effects particular to this medium. All electrical equipment and wax are provided.
